Austria’s hotel industry has something to be pleased about: the number of overnight stays has risen again this summer – and this applies to guests from both foreign and domestic regions.
For the current 2019 summer season (May-July), 38.8 million overnight stays were reported. This represents an increase of 3.0% compared to the same period over the previous year. The positive interim results are attributable to both domestic (+ 1.7% to 11.6 million) and foreign overnight stays (+ 3.5% to 27.2 million). Most foreign guests again came from Germany, but there is also growth from other EU countries, especially from The Netherlands and our Eastern neighbors. Although not among the TOP 15 for overnight stays in the first half of the summer season, Saudi Arabia is represented with a significant increase of 24%.
