Especially women and those under 35 years of age make high demands when visiting the restaurant and they appreciate different offerings that also take into account special dietary requirements. These are the main findings of a survey of the online reservation portal OpenTable from the beginning of the year. Women in particular expect a differentiated offering: 55% require at least one vegetarian dish on the menu (men 38%), about 15 or 12% also want gluten-free meals. A vegetarian diet is more common than among the over-35s (10% and 3%, respectively), especially among the “millennials” who were born between the early 1980s and late 1990s. For special requests, more than 10% speak of a food allergy, intolerances or a special diet, such as vegan. 66% also want something different, because certain ingredients do not match their own taste.
