Meissl x De Veerstal – an outdoor solution that moves with the seasons

Projects

While you are reading these lines, an umbrella bar unlike most others is taking shape on the banks of the IJssel in the Netherlands. Designed not only to operate across seasons, but also to change its location depending on the time of year.

As a diverse holiday destination along the IJssel, the holiday park De Veerstal offers guests a wide range of leisure activities all year round. Visitors stay in chalets or at the campsite, relax on the beach – and now experience a completely new Meissl umbrella bar.

In this case, flexibility is not just an advantage, but a core requirement: In summer, guests are drawn to the expansive private sandy beach of the resort. By the lake, they enjoy the sun, take a swim, and are now also served directly by the new Meissl installation, offering drinks and snacks in a sheltered, comfortable setting.

But the resort does not slow down in winter. Instead of quiet days, the focus shifts towards events and gatherings. To ensure these can take place right next to the restaurant, the umbrella bar is simply dismantled – and relocated for the colder months.

A complex project for the customer, as well as the long-standing Meissl partner Bart Luypaert, currently still in the installation process but already exceptional in its execution:

  • Umbrella bar: 1 Meissl large umbrella type MA, 11 m Ø, 18 segments, area 93.11 m²
  • Base system: continuous 18-part floor frame including base flange
  • Lighting: integrated LED system (direct & indirect)
  • Infrared heaters
  • Wind protection
  • Panoramic rain gutters
  • Sound system
